    Well –

I received my copy today in the mail, and I’m really pleased with the image they selected for the cover. It conveys the predator/prey nature of falconry in that there are specs of blood on the redtail’s face, but it isn’t overtly gory.

    I am most pleased indeed.

Will scan and get a few others up in the next day – but here’s my first (of hopefully many more) cover in Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine.

That bird is rather intimidating. I would hate to be on the receiving end of that beak! Great stuff Kendal. Do you mind sharing the story behind that particular image?

Heh – I swear, I am one snake-bit old Norseman here.

No sooner did I post that last night than did my desktop system lock right up. I’ve gotta work on it this afternoon – but created another account here (as I couldn’t recall the password for the other one – sorry Zach).

Still – wanted to answer a question or two.

The shot was taken during the second hunt I had here in Houston with Chuck Redding. Cisco (the redtail in the photo) had finished gobbling a rat, hence the bits of rat blood on his face.

We’d had a nice hunt that day, and though he’d missed the only two rabbits we flushed, he pounced on many smaller rodents, including the fat rat at the end of the day he cropped out on.

To answer another question; yes, it’s out now – the November issue, and hit subscriber mailboxes in the past couple of days. It might be another week, or longer, before you see them hit the bookstores.

An aside – they have *very* reasonable subscription rates, and they have some fine work in the magazine – it’s worth considering a subscription:

Fantastic shot it totally deserves to be right up front on the cover! Congrats! The amount of talent and knowledge on this board always amazes me.
