35mm film conversion to digital?

I have 40 or 50 rolls of TMAX B&W I shot while backpacking through Europe a few years ago. What is the best way to convert those negs to a digital format? An employee at a local shop today told me it would run 0.75/neg. At that price, I would be looking at 6 or 7 bills. I know Nikon carries a scanner called the “Cool” something or other, but it costs 5 bills. Suggestions?
If anyone has these capabilities, I will trade a case of Shinerbock and a dozen bugs of your choice.
.75 a negative for 50 rolls of film would be $225….
I’m pleased with results from a Canon 4400F flat bed (it’s got an attachment built in the lid that holds and backlights them).
If it were only $225, I would do it. But, these were cassettes I rolled myself. But thanks for the ideas w/ the 4400F. I will see what runs around here and on the web.

If it’s a one time project, this might make more sense than investing in a scanner and spending the time to get good results out of it.

that’s great advice, one 35mm scan is only $0.19 at 3000dpi. The place here in Dallas was $0.75/scan. And I also talked to some guys about the coolscan, but if I can select the best negs and pay only 19 cents, that’s where I think i’ll go.

DustyA lady from scansafe finally got back to me: Color negs are .19, but B&W negs are .99/each. That coolscan is starting to look more attractive. That is unless any of you have any other ideas.
