    Hi all
I’ve been toying with the idea of a DSLR for a while, but with the release of the G9 I’m leaning more towards the point and shoot. It has most of the features I want(RAW,hotshoe, macro etc etc)but its lense is only 35-210mm(35mm equivalent). Most of my fishing shots would be boat based and I don’t think this is quite wide enough,so my questions are
    1. Has anyone used wide converters
2.Are they any good(I know they’ll have drawbacks, but could you live with them)
3.DA,have you got your hands on a G9 yet?
Morsie (or anyone)feel free to give us your G7 pro’s and con’s,have you used it for out of water shots or just the underwater shots you have posted.

    cheers

    Courty,

I haven’t tried one yet – to busy trying to get my greasy mitts on the DSIII .. 😉

35mm is not wide enough for shooting on boats IMO, not even close.

Mind you, that would be for publishing shots, for personal stuff it would be fine for man with fish shots and some limited landscape stuff.

If you’re looking at adaptors make sure they’re quick & easy to use – you wouldn’t want to be stuck with it on or off while trying to shoot.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

Courty, I use it for macro stuff for quick internet postings of flies etc but mostly the G7 is in its housing and is used underwater. Unfortunately the wide adaptor is not suitable for the housing. I have ordered a G9 and housing simply because of the Raw factor otherwise the lens limitation has not been an issue for me in what I do.
