DLSR replacements?

With all of the improvements in manual point and shoot cameras these days. Just wondering what you guys use when you don’t feel like dragging out the DLSR?
I’m considering the Leica D-lux 3.
I like the ability to shoot raw in a point and shoot and the 16:9 aspect ratio is pretty cool.
Cons seem to be excessive noise at higher ISO. But it’s had to beat Leica glass.

I was actually looking some of those over the other day but not seriously considering buying and the model numbers are lost in my head.

I’ve dug the Leica stuff for a long time but didn’t want to pay what they ask for a DSLR.  As far as the point and shoots go the ones I handled the other day were by all accounts great.  That said Panasonic makes a few models that are basically the same, including the Leica lenses, they are missing a few features here and there but for a few hundred less so you might be interested in checking that out; they were probably equally as nice but without the Leica bling on the side.

Also sales dude was talking up how Leica packages copies of Photoshop Elements with their cameras instead of the cheap-o stuff you usually get.  That’s pretty cool, but you’re paying for it somewhere and it might be unnecessary if you’ve already got editing software.

I’ve always wanted a Leica but never ponied up the money yet! There is some powerful mojo going on though. Leica images have a special quality about them that I suppose has something to do with the lenses. It seems that images made with the M series camera are special in some way. I think Val Atkinson used Leicas for a while and his pictures have a rich quality that is nice. I have seen some M8 images and they are awesome. My big issue is shutter lag with point and shoot style cameras. I have a Nikon 8400 and the shutter lag drives me crazy, but I can’t carry a SLR in a pouch on my wading belt though!
