Yet another gear bag option

Started to add to the protecting your gear thread and saw a spam, so just started another thread.

Just got a Tamrac Messenger 4 today. I needed something more conventional to take to the zoo and events and something handy to grab. I like the security of a backpack, but they really are a pain to get into. Thought about a sling pack, but decided the the shoulder bag was more to my liking and looked less like a camera bag (not sure about that. It is rather large).

This is their larger messenger shoulder style bag for under $50. Holds my 30D with 24-70 on, plus a zoom to 200 or 300mm and a speedlite. Plus room for small assessories, cell phone and manual.

I raised the flash and the zoom on the side just for display, but the pockets are deeper than they look.

I’m going to have to go the Pelican route for at least some of my used, out on the kayak and all that.

yeah, I’ve got the foam in the old Pelican and I am kind of burned out on it.

I have one of these. I found it a few years ago in Colorado. It’s a modular system. You get a belt, then add the pieces you need. I have three on my belt, the camera bag, and two lense bags. One is for the flash unit. It’s not a bad way to carry a DSLR. It doea have an over bag that you can put over the camera bag in case it rains. I bought it then took it on a 18 mile hike in the mountains.

I bought one of the soft bags to go in my Pelican 1400. I was really disappointed in the fact that you are really limited with regard to space. It was a tight fit with my D70s w/lens attached. At times I thought I’d hafta stand on the freakin’ Pelican case, just to get it closed. I’d suggest saving your money.

I hope it works for ya’. Pay close attention to the flash mount . That’s where I had problems with fit. I got it in there but it was tight and I didn’t feel good about it. I decided to use the foam insert instead.

Carter, I’m not possessive about threads. I think that’s the whole idea–interaction. Let it go where it will.

Good report. I liked the photos. Gives me a better idea of the product. Nice case and looks like good protection. My dilemna now is I am wanting too much photo gear in the boat and not enough room for fishing gear
