    Hi All!

I am looking to take my photography to the next level and am in the market for a digital slr camera. I have always owned compact type cameras and have really liked how simple they are to use. However I find myself more and more wanting the ability to zoom in on wildlife I see when I am out with clients. I have always owned Olympus cameras and really like them. I like quality so I would be looking for a camera with at least 10mp. Can any of you recommend a digital slr and tell me what you like about the camera? I appreciate any and all feedback on this subject.

    Thanks!

Nikon or Cannon are the leaders in the market. Both have different camera bodies that share a wide array of lenses and accessories. I have been using a Nikon D2Xs recently its a nice camera but a lot to lug around. I think if I were buying a camera for personal use I would take a look at the D200. You won’t out grow it. It depends a lot on how much you want to put into it money wise. It adds up in a hurry but it might be a nice tax deduction if you can use it in your work.

    Moosedog:

Suggest you look at the lens lineup of both Canon and Nikon and read some reviews. Both manufacturers have strengths and weaknesses although they are pretty even. Since quality lenses will generally outlast camera bodies, go with that in mind. I went with Canon because of their macro lens and image stabilization lineup and “faster” autofocus. My current main camera is a Canon 30D, and it is sweet.

Also check with B&H and KEH for used equipment. You can often find older generation camera bodies for next to nothing. I know you want digital, but the Canon Elan 7 body is now under $300 new and makes a great cheap backup film body.
