Lately I’ve been shooting a lot of what end up being “fish in the net” pictures. I’ve been hitting the Upper Sac’s winter BWO hatches, so the idea that I’d blow even a couple minutes arranging a picture seems dumb — the bugs are slaloming down the river (but only for a short time), and the fish are larger than normal, so my priorities are pretty clear.
Plus, I’m always a little uncomfortable with the “fish on the rock” pictures I see so often. I’ve done it before, the trout always flopped around, and I’ve been left with a nagging feeling I’ve done some unnecessary damage.
