Just to round out my meandering observations I will say that:
1) it takes a long time to make these shots, about 1 minute per exposure due to use of timer on camera for sharpness, exposure time, and above all WRITE time on the digital camera; basically I think it is around 60% of the exposure time to write the image to a file.
I have tried shooting some nighttime casting shots with my Fuji S5000 (pre D70 days) with the Rio Lumalux line at night in a field at night (in the country away from lights), but I couldn’t control the S5000 well enough to get a decent result — although I am all about it now.
