Around the end of August in the NE, we have giant flights of flying ants, many of which end up falling into the streams much to the delight of the trout who seem to find them a delicacy. In these flights there are several sizes and colors, most are very tiny black ones, but the ones that the fish key on are larger, meatier, and have a honey colored gaster and black mid and head sections. I’ve been playing around for years with patterns for these things, but I think the paraloop might be the best answer, it floats really well while allowing the body to suspend in the film, giving the fish a better look at what might be a drowning tidbit. On a sixteen Orvis hook that’s a little longer than most.
