I was just curious what people used for woolly bugger hackle for around a size 10.  I’ve been using dry hackles from capes, but would like to find a cheaper source.  The strung hackles seem a little large for this size.

I’d go with a Whiting 100 pack, although you might find it a little stiff as it is really designed for dry flies.

I find Whitings’ hen capes and hen saddles are too stiff. I prefer to use Collins’ hen capes, which come with the hen saddle patches. Perfect for woolly buggers and soft hackle flies. I buy them from http://www.GreatFeathers.com

I’ve used the Whiting “wooly bugger” hackle… nice stuff, no complaints.

I like to use saddle patches for my salt water flies. I get them from Wapsi. Often times there is left over hackle from what I use to the bottom of the stem, so I keep these and use them on my woolly buggers.
    They turn out like this:

    Bob, that’s pretty funny.

I’m going to check out some of those options. Has the hair market craze affected the Whiting woolly bugger packs any?

Whiting Packs are nice and come in several colors.  Unless a person is a production tyer, each pack will last a long time.

Ask this lady where she got her vest, plenty of good feathers there.
