Big Horn Favorite Flies?

I’m hitting the Big Horn in the next two weeks for about 4 days.

Kelly-

Here is my favorite fly for Bighorn-

Ray Charles- #20- scud hook
Body- Ostriche Herl- tan or grey
Thread–Red
Case– wide pearl mylar

Super easy tie-
Thread the hook- at back of fly tie in mylar, and 2 ostriche herl- wrap the herl to the eye- then take the mylar and pull over the back of fly- whip finish –done.

This thing always works- I use it as a dropper off of a small balck caddis pupae or midge.

I’ll second the Ray Charles, and add red thread midges.

Pink soft hackle sow bug.  Money.

This is the tan version, which works well too.

Small Baetis nymphs kill in April and May. The midge fishing should also be good on dries.

Baetis, RC, and worms. You will slay fish.

That is such a slutty river, you will love it.

I was there this week – last year.  It was around 70 degrees with mixed clouds and sun everyday.  Mid-day the wind was hawking but when it would die down in the evenings we hunted heads which was a nice change from balloon watching.    
Most of what you need has been said already.

Midge Clusters

I second the idea of checking with Brad Downey.  He guided me on a memorable week on the Bighorn in the mid 1990s, first week of May.  The flies that worked then included:

Midge clusters, Griffith’s Gnats if the fish look up
Soft hackle sow bugs
San Juan worms
Ray Charles
Orange scuds (with and without beads)
Baetis nymphs, like Brad’s “Hackle Butt Nymphs”
Zebra midges
Disco midges
