clark reidMemberTying the Shark Shagger
Put a 10/0 Gamakatsu SL12 in the vice and using tiger wire attach a 6/0 TMC 600SP to the rear facing upwards

Tie in a large clump of Kanekalon Hair Fibers (Orange is my favored Color)
They should extend a few inches beyond the stinger hook. Taper them to give a fish profile.

Now add another clump, mainly for bulk but using another color gives a nice effect

You can see how this level is kept short…. This will enhance the bulky forward part and tapering tail as the fly build goes on. (yes we are building more than tying here.)
Now add a robust collar of “Maraglit”… I have just discovered this material and love it!!!

Now encase the entire thing in another layer of Kanekalon Orange but leave it sparse enough that the flash and colors underneath show through.
We have deliberately tied all of the materials as far to the back of the hook as possible turning the shank of the fly into and extra inch and a half of bite tippet. This is only important to the IGFA guys.

Bind over the entire shank with Fire Orange thread to make it as tidy as you want it and attack a couple of 3D holographic eyes and cement in place with Zap a gap a goo.

Epoxy the body with two or three coats and turn until set. (These flies all have to be done by hand as they are two big for my turner and also have a lot of weight which makes them fall off and consequently I swear.

I apologize I was a bit impatient doing this and the belly has a bit of sag… The sharks won’t care.Happy shark hunting and remember to count all your fingers on return.
Also… Don’t hit yourself in the back of the head with one of these.
Regards
Clark

clark reidMemberYeah I’ve abused the renzetti and it’s still going strong. The other vice it ended up in a Peak Rotary I have borrowed from a friend to play with. not a bad vice.
I just through it in there as it was the closest as the epoxy started to drip.. 😀

MemberGreat fly, Clark! Interesting you’ve had the same experience using orange as I have… Some Americans suggested using yellow – apparently Mako’s love yellow – have you tried yellow yet?

clark reidMemberThat’s a heck of a compliment coming from someone i consider one of the very best SWF tiers down under today… especially for such as the “shagger” whiich is such an “agricultural” fly :D…
I haven’t haven’t tried yellow, but now you’ve suggested it…. ;D
We were out today and didn’t get a shark up… heaps of Kahawai, no Kings sighted but Chris (Visiting from Aussie) did get a nice Albacore which was a first of that species on fly on my boat. We’re going again tomorrow so who knows… some guys near us did get a 200lb Mako on conventional gear.
great jumping shot and thanks again Chris.
