firstly, spike that renzetti in the trash and get a real vise.

secondly, if you are dead set on keeping that junk then hmh makes a tube fly tool that works with any vise that can take 2/0 hooks:

    Tim,

Get the HMH tube fly attachment. Don’t get the decked out kit, it’s a waste of money. The next thing you should get is a European needle for the attachment. The reason you will want to get this is so that you can tie with some of the semi-flexible tubing. Like the F.I.T.S. tubes that Guideline makes. This stuff is the way to go. You don’t have to worry about junction tubing. Putting on coneheads is a breeze. Not to mention you get a nice tapered nose. I get all of my stuff from The Fly Fishing Shop. Here is a link to the tube fly tools, http://www.flyfishusa.com/fly-tying/tube-fly-tools.htm#Starter
and here is one to the tubes.

    Hope this helps.

This sounds stupid, but having never even seen a tube fly in person, I am wondering how the heck you fish it?

The biggest advantage is that it allows you to use a smaller hook with a farther back position on the fly.

I have tied tubes a lot. Yep those Deer hair head type patterns work well on tubes.

I like using deer hair patterns on tubes Modularly – so tie various colored/style deer hair

    Zach,

Rainy’s got a few of them. Most of them are designed by Yuri Shumakov. If you can tie it on a hook, you can tie it on a tube.

The only thing I use tube flies for is shark.  I use quick rusting circle hooks on big flies so tying the fly on the hook would be a waste.  You can also tie in a wire tippet inside the fly.  That way, if you have to cut it off, there is a good chance you can recover the fly.

As for tubes themselves check out:

i’m just getting into tubeflies and have tied some simple patterns for fishing for steelhead off the beach at the mouth of the tributaries here in erie, pa.  unfortunately, i haven’t gotten a chance to try them out.  i will fish them using a rio sinking leader to get the fly under the surface.  the comment that if you can tie on a regular hook, you can tie on a tube is definitely true.

One of the other great attributes of tubeflies is you can build bulk into a fly much easier because the tube is essentially giving you a thicker base unlike a hook shank, where you would have to put layers upon layers of material.

I have owned the HMH adaptor (both versions) the newest HMH collet jaws conversion to the main vise, the Renzetti Tube fly vise.

My current favorite is the Dyna-King Tube Fly Vise 2002.

    http://www.dyna-king.com/flyvise_dtl.asp?itemval=22&pv=0&pid=018

It will accept the HMH and Renzetti mandrels and any custom mandrels you may make up.

    Regards,
    FK
