In my continual quest to catch a muskie on a fly rod, I have invested in materials to make some popper flies.

Tim I can’t see the images (work related IS build POS computer) I wanted to share with you one of the neatest ways I’ve seen big poppers used for giant flies. To make this fly a large body of EP, Deer hair, Flash, long feathers, etc, etc, is built up a little behind the eye. Once the body is all built the popper head is reamed out so that it slides over the built up material (sneaky Pete style). Once you have it reamed out it should hide the material build up,  then epoxy everything with a thick coat of whatever you use for epoxy. I like Loon hard head.

Fished on a floating line assuming you can cast it on a floating line it would make that V wake that’s so enticing to Muskie. I’ll try to find a picture of what I’m trying to describe. The one I saw was about 12” long.

I would like to use some of them to make some of these too.

    Mike,

When you find a picture or recipe for what you are describing, please send it my way.

    Your options are relatively limited.

Not sure if this helps, but, an alternate way of making popper/deer hair patterns with tubes that is really handy-

I’d probablly be looking the most at your second and third set up there.

I ended up going with Carter’s advice on the placement and Mike’s advice on the adhesive just because I still have to get some goop.

Yeah, I heard the other day on NPR that they were using a tuolene glue to repair the shuttle and I was like, ‘hmm, that’s Goop!’
