If You’re Thinking About Registering, Read This!

Hey guys –

First of all, welcome to The Itinerant Angler.  Joining this board is a little more involved than some you may be used to, but the tradeoff is that once you join and your membership is approved, you’ll be part of a community that basically runs itself with no need for moderation and practically no trolling or childishness.

You will need to register in order to see pictures, as well.  Because we have been receiving a lot of spam-bot registrations lately, I have been forced to approve every membership, and also to ask each would-be member to write a short sentence explaining why they want to join.

The spambots say things like “Because.” or “Seems good.” or “Just want information.”  I can’t tell you from a spambot if you respond to the registration question with a short statement like that.  So please, write a complete sentence and indicate that you are interested in fly fishing in some way.  I worry that I am rejecting legitimate human beings and that is not my goal.

Once you have decided you want to register, please review our first and last names policy for guidelines on choosing a handle that will get approved.

If your membership is not approved within a reasonable amount of time (usually within the hour, but if I am stuck in traffic or something, up to a day from the time you register), please email me at ZachMatthews@gmail.com and let me know that your membership is waiting to be approved.

This is an update as of 03/07/13:

The spambot registrations have recently gotten stronger and I’ve had to increase the registration security procedure almost to its maximum level.

I know the CAPTCHA is a pain in the ass and hard to read.  If you are having trouble registering, please email me at ZachMatthews@gmail.com and I will set up your account at my earliest opportunity.
