MemberI’m planning a backcountry camping trip to Yellowstone and some of the un-crowded areas of the park for 2014 summer. I have read all the guide books and what you would call “how to”……However I’m really looking to get as much as I can out of this trip and want to read up on some of the history of Yellowstone, and its visitors. If anyone could recommend some reading for me Id greatly appreciate it.
Also if anyone has done a backcountry trip in this area feel free to email me and give me some tips and direction.
Thanks
Doug

Roy ConleyMemberNational Geographic Park Profiles, Yellowstone Country is a good read with about 100 photos and some history added. There is also a book that is about death in Yellowstone, do not remember the exact title, that will take you through how many went to Yellowstone not to return.
I am not an expert about Yellowstone by any means, but if you walk 1/2 mile from most any road you will be in an uncrowded area.
Enjoy the planning and the trip.

Michael PhillippeMemberFor planning trips I like the National Geographic Trails Illustrated maps. They are big and it’s fun to spread one out on the floor and see the entire park.
