    Folks,

I am going to HH this weekend with the GF’s parents.  Anyone know anything about the fishing in or around there?  Is it was worth bringing a rod with me to either try for stuff in the surf or to rent a Kayak/SUP and go after some reds.  I could also bring my kayak instead of renting, but that is a little more trouble that I think I want to deal with.

Any thoughts, suggestions, etc. are appreciated.

    Scott

I love Hilton Head. I would definitely bring my own yak and launch at the ramp under the bridge near Palmetto Bay marina. There is so much water to explore around that area and its all crawling with reds and flounder. Hit the Black Marlin afterwards. I would also recommend stopping by the Frosty Frog and getting a large Dirty Monkey to go. 😉

Chris – Thanks for the ideas.  I hit up a few of them (including that high tide flat ) Sunday from low tide to high tide.  Took a while to get back to that flat – really cool watching that area flood and come to life.  Saw a couple of redfish but didn’t really have any shots.  A lot of paddling in my kayak, though.  Hooked a crab on a clouser, which was a new experience.  Pretty country and having 7 foot tidal swings is quite a trip and makes you think a little more before you toss your kayak in!

Jay – Thanks for the pointer as well – the GF, her brothers and I took a trip on SUPs (me standing in my kayak) late in the day on saturday out of that marina.  Highlight of their trip.  Really nice area.  Didn’t take arod and didn’t see any reds back there, but could imagine it to be a good place.

Glad you could get out. I went early as we discussed and could not get the reds to eat. Caught a couple of big lady fish, one was very large, and a flounder. The reds were very spooky. Nice just to be out there. Give me a shout when you head back this way and we can go chase some reds.
    Chris.
