Took off early this morning ~4AM to the headwaters of the Ruby River. Got a tip that fishing was good.

Made it all the way to Centennial Divide before turning around and finding a spot for a couple of hours of hopper fishing.

About 5 miles downstream from the Divide near Poison Creek

The Hogback of the Snowcrest Range towered over me to the West

The river was a bit low, but cool on the feet

Cutts were aggressive on a #10 hopper.
The headwaters of the Ruby seem like a long way from anywhere as they are tucked up in the SW corner of Montana close to the Idaho border. But in reality from Bozeman, Poison Creek is a mere 100 miles from my house, not much further than West Yellowstone or Gardiner. But I’m glad they seem far away as no one else was around all morning.
