Fished the well-known places with lots of my friends

had to put in a reservation at West Yellowstone to get this spot

people party hardy up here so evenings on the river were pretty quiet

caddis hatch was much better than on the Madison

trico time

this kid provided commentary on my casting

couple of guys spey-casting for biggies here

pretty quiet in the morning before the fleet put in

fished well-known places with nobody but the critters
this one required a bit of a slog but the big bugs were still doing it in the willows

got some nice ‘bows (definitely didn’t look like cutt-bows) here; didn’t think they came up this far

surprised we had this to ourselves but the bear hauling ass back and forth across the meadow may have had something to do with it

fished a lot of little blue lines that nobody else bothered with; if I could hit the water with a hopper (not always a sure thing) I was in business:
this one had browns and biting flies

this one had browns, cutt-bows and biting flies

that duct tape is SPF 50, btw

this one had ‘bows, brookies and biting flies

time to clean my nails (and yes, that fly’s about to take a hunk out of my thumb)

this one had westslopes where the water turned deep blue-green

this place was interesting; the browns were up but I couldn’t quite figure out what they wanted on top

Random stuff
folks were more interested in this than the Firehole Falls

bit of a debate over which is the better eatery

stuck in a (Toccata and) fugue state

sage grouse country

Mary Kay in Montana is one tough lady

scored some home made pumpkin pie and macaroni salad in Three Forks

one third of the Triad

well, where else would you put them?

looks like they’ve cleaned up Browning a bit

well, maybe not

Wind? Let’s talk about the wind (the Leaning Tower of Marias Pass)

heading back to the mean streets of Whitefish

why they call it Big Sky country
