The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
I am planning on hitting the Henry’s Fork in the 2nd week of Sept.

MemberI live in Rigby and fish the Henry’s some in September but spend more time throwing streamers/hoppers on the South Fork or hunting Chukars and Grouse in the foothills.

The Itinerant AnglerIt has been quite a few years since I was on the HF in mid-Sept., but I do remember a lot of small (#18 to #24) BWOs at that time. We used small soft hackle and dun patterns. Lots of weeds in the river too.
Call or email Trout Hunter for more specifics and I would recommend trying their tippet material too while out there. If you use CDC, Trout Hunter has the best around in my opinion.
In the West Yellowstone area if you want a rustic cabin at a reasonable price in the scenic Gallation National Forest between the lakes (Hebgen & Quake) see http://www.campfirelodgewestyellowstone.com/. Awesome breakfast too that will keep you full all day.

MemberWhich part of the Hank? I used to live in Rigby as well and second the tip of tossing streamers on the SF.
What will be your route in the Park? Maybe I could meet up for a day and stab stuff in the face.
Oh, and look into the Bechler region if you are over near Ashton.

The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
I have Yellowstone pretty well figured now, but I have never fished in Idaho at all.

MemberThe balloons will work well for the Box. Are you staying up at Last Chance, or fishing down near Chester?
Hank Lake (and outlet) should be fishing well, Warm River section is always good, but I’m not sure what the work on Ashton Dam has done to the Ora/ Vernon area. BWO’s, mahogany duns, and hoppers!
Last Chance to West is maybe 40 minutes, Enis is just a little longer.

The Itinerant AnglerHow far is the Henry’s Fork from West?
About 1 hour. Depends if you drive normal or like they do in Montana.

fred handyMemberI’ll be out there (ID and MT) 3rd and 4th week of Sept. Love that time of year. Different area, tho. I’m addicted to the Clearwater drainage.
I wish I had YNP figured out.

MemberI lived in the middle of the park (canyon area) for three months working for the parks service one summer and didn’t get it all figured out. You are the man Zach.
