Hi guys! It’s taken far too long to get all these images ready and I apologize. Since returning I’ve recovered from the time change and have now finished my newsletter (will be up later tonight). I’ll keep the report short. We all had a wonderful time, and I had a blast shooting photography over there. It was a huge challenge though, as it did rain most of the time.

The place itself is incredible. Beautiful, remote, and nothing short of outstanding accommodations. All the guides were tip top professionals. As you’ll read in my newsletter, the new underwater housing was a lifesaver. For obvious reasons it allowed me to shoot in the rain, but it’s so lightweight that I was able to carry it around with ease.

Enough blabber here are some pics! If you guys have any questions about this place, please ask!

LOTS of spit helped me achieve shots like this with my housing. Spit = no water drops on dome 🙂

    Matt,

I’ve been waiting for these……as usual…..first class stuff!

I was getting ready to ask how you got the “over” part of the over and unders….so clear. Then I see…..”spit”. Your exposure on the over and unders is dead-on. Care to share some exif data on the split shots?

    Thanks for sharing!

The over under shots are just sick.

In the short time I spent employed at a fly shop in the Northeast, we would outfit guys once or twice a year headed to the Seychelles.  Just sorting through gear for these trips was mind blowing.  We would have to call our dealers and special order everything from hooks to reels to tippet – capable of handling GT on the fly.  Way outside of “normal” inventory for a shop set up to manage the demands of your typical trout, bone or steelhead trip.  We eventually got it all dialed in after the first trip returned with a report.  Amazing stuff.  Unreal pictures.  I have not checked out the pic’s on your site but I’d love to see some shots of your fly box and hear more about what outfit you threw at the biggest GT.
I will never forget the first time I ever even heard about fly fishing that part of the world.  Fish and Fly did a spread (1997?) of a female guide from the Urban Angler in NYC.  A beautiful woman, in a beautiful spot, catching beautiful fish, it was just about all I could handle.  Great stuff.

    Colin,

If you are referring to the photos above, those are parrotfish and bonefish. As far as triggers changing colors I’m not certain. Judging by what I saw, I don’t think they do. Sneaking up on them, they were the same color when feeding as they were once we landed them.

Emperors on the other hand did change colors. Once lifted out of the water they immediately darkened up and their colors became more vibrant.

I see you still have the same 10-22 but did you get a new body? The image quality looks better at any rate, not that it looked bad before.

These are very good but I was hoping you would have a new photo under your name there…

Carter, I did get a new body. Picked up a Canon 7D before the trip. You guiding at URL this summer? I’m going to try and make it up there for a week or two.
