Its cold now in D.C. so I need to be reminded of some warmth. These are some pics from my recent trip with the wife and baby to LA. She had a conference in El Segundo. We stayed at the Ritz in Marina Del Rey (Govt Rate !!).

It was a trip or 1/3 eating 1/3 family time and 1/3 fly fishing.

I had the baby with me the entire time so it was the 1st trip when booze and fly fishing were not the priority. I had to pack more baby stuff than fishing gear. Then had to figure out where to fly fish with a baby in a stroller and/or bjorn.

Torta at Santa Monica Farmers Market. Cooked by a restaurant ran by reformed gang banger girls.

A funny chicken on a goat at the farmers market

A lady with feathers as her vest

    Feather hair extensions and earrings

    Korean taco truck

My 1st catch at Mothers Beach, a tennis ball with a mussel on it. I blame it on the free vodka drinks available behind the hotel front desk after 3pm

    Birds on beach at sunset

    Breakfast at Gjelina

Bathroom outside fresco at Venice Beach

    More feathers

Wasn’t sure if I’d pass my USCG Captains license drug test after inhaling all the green air in Venice. People on park benches with bongs-out in the open.

Looks like you gained five pounds on the trip. Two thumbs up on the grub. Brought back some good memories of fishing SF Bay with the fam this summer.

The food choices out here are insane, lots of great food. Lots of coastline to fish out here as well.

    Benjamin,

I was reading your blog while I was out there and came across it when I Googled ‘father daughter fly fishing’ to see if the Long Beach people submitted their pic to the newspaper as they stated. Small world.

I’ve fished some of those exact spots – even that small beach in Long Beach!

This is a family site, but let’s not take things to extremes.  You caught a big veiny strap on?  Yeah, I think we need to see those pics.

My initial WTF when it got tangled up in the line:

    Upon closer inspection:

The phone image I sent my wife when I found it “you didn’t take it with you did you?!?!?”

    Awesome.

How did Zach know it was veiny before seeing the photos?

Either way you look at it, being on the receiving end is a shocker.

Something like that is uncomfortable-looking enough without being covered in sand.

    The food looks great!

I thought it was the latest top secret fly from the bench of Kelly Galloup….the tongue depressor. 😮 Never in my life would I have thought that anyone would hook something so foul. Brings an entirely new meaning to the term foul hooked doesn’t it?

After seeing the first few pics I would say that I’m suddenly hungry, but after that…novelty…I am hesitant to comment.

Obviously washed down from Gomorrah up north.  The city by the bay.
