Curtis BiasMemberYou know, the more I think about it, the more I believe that finding the perfect fishing buddy is extremely hard to do. It helps if the other angler has a lot in common with you. It helps even more if your views on a variety of topics are the same. Then of course, there are the ethical questions that arise concerning fishing tackle and techniques. Do you catch and release or catch and keep? Are you a cane polers, spin caster, bait caster, fly angler etc.?
As fly anglers, we are in the minority. At least in my area, the bass boat crowd reigns supreme. They have their own set of rules that they play by. In my area, there is also a long established tradition of catching and keeping your fish for the table. There is nothing wrong with the bass fishing crowd in my mind. I fish for bass too. I just use a different tool for the job.
I’ve been lucky enough to have two close friends that brought me into the fly fishng fold about 4 years ago. I go fishing with them whenever I can. My brother was also bitten by the bug and started doing the pesca con mosca shuffle too. My family followed suit. My wife and kids are all going along these days. Of course, when the kids go, I end up helping rather than fishing. While I enjoy going out and fishing with my friends, fishing with the family is top notch.
Good fishing partners are hard to find. If you have good buds, a significant other, or a family that fishes together I would like to see pics. I’ll start with a few of my own if you don’t mind.

Knot tying lessons aka family ties
My 4 year old son decided to pick up Daddy’s rod and give it a cast. I heard the fly whiz by close to me. My wife snapped this pick as he was casting and I was ducking. I’m just not into body modification or body piercing.
And yes, my wife enjoys fly fishing too.
I’m quite pleased that my oldest son likes to fly fish enough that he saved up some coin and bought himself a boat. Those are serious priorities for a 15 year old.Who are you fishing with?

MemberI love to fish with my wife and kids, nothing better. I also love to fish with my dad. He’s the guy that taught me and will always be my favorite fishing buddy, even though he’s not a fly fisherman.
But you are right, good fishing buddies are hard to find. But don’t ever give up. Buddies have come and gone but the last couple of years I have been really blessed.

And for those days when you just really don’t want to put up with anyone’s bullshit, there is the perfect fishing partner.

Justin WittMemberWhat a neat thread; thanks for getting it started Curtis. Here’s a few of my usual gang – some of them Argentine, some of them Yankees like myself, and even one of my Mom who I still manage to drag out onto the lake every time I’m stateside for a little bit of throwing poppers at the Bluegill. Hope you enjoy.
