Chickens raised for feathers are treated totally different than birds raised commercially for meat.

I was reading the replies on the first link to Peta. Are those people really that stupid? Amazing. Half of them don’t know feathers come from animals and then there are the special ones like this……

I saw some girls wearing them and I thought, “Wow, those look cool!” But then I read this and I’m now thinking, “Shun the rooster killers!!! Shun them!”

I think our real problem is that we are so far removed from what what we wear and eat. We go to the supermarket and buy our steak or mince meat, never appreciating the processes that get it there. I’ve never killed a cow with my own hands, but I’ve eaten plenty of them.
I don’t think I could work in a slaughter house, but I appreciate somebody doing it for me.
The other problem we have is the anthropomorphism of animals in films. Instinctual behaviour in animals is interpreted with human emotions. When the movie ‘Babe’ came out, pig farmers couldn’t sell their pigs as the arse fell out of the demand for pork.
I don’t know what the answer is.
We have a ‘respected’ scientist here (Dr. Karl) who is saying things on radio like ” Just because you can’t hear them scream doesn’t mean that fish don’t cry like a kicked puppy when they are caught on a hook.”
How many ‘do-gooder-no-thinker’ people now believe that recreational fishing is cruel. All those who buy fish but don’t go fishing I’m thinking.

Just got back from Los Angeles. The feather hair extension and feather earrings are all over the place. Every fifth stand in Venice had them. And I got in trouble for photographing them. Still managed a few shots when the vendors were toking up.

Some had entire pheasant tails as an earring. That was a bit much/long.
