    has anyone cast one yet?

I’m looking to get a new rod for Gheenoe and canoe fishing on my tailwater. Putting the 590-3 SP in semi-retirement. Looking for a replacement.

Wondering if it’s a notch or two up from the A3 or just a model number change. The A3’s should go on sale soon 😀

Yep, the Scott A4 is a big step above the A3. It blends several different types of graphite throughout the blank (like on the G2, S4, other manfs high end rods). I believe this is the first time this has been done on a rod in this price range. Components were all upgraded, crisper action, better tracking. I will say the rod casts better when loaded with a GPX style taper for most casters. Found this out at the IFTD Show when dealers were playing around with the rod on the pond.

I have to agree with James. I’ve just taken the 906/4 and 908/4 to a fly tying weekend for demonstration and everyone loved both rods. I described the #6 as a softer S4 and definitely a better performer than the A3. Still medium fast action but well behaved and so easy to cast. I had this one rigged with an SA Air Cell Supreme II WF floater which performed well. In fact, for the $$ I think Scott have delivered some seriously great fishing rods. The #8 was quite different in action – beefed up in power and slightly crisper to cast. What a flats rod! I had this cookie rigged with a Bermuda Triangle Taper Ghost Tip WF8F/I which is a great combination.

Rods are shipping to dealers now. Several dealers should have them in the next week or so.

The other “new” products aside from the A4 and new two handers is the M series which is basically a custom shop rod with sick components.
