The White gets crowded but check out floating through the Buffalo Wilderness into the White or other smaller rivers.

Come to Pennsylvania.  Some of the best trout fishing anywhere, but you’ll be hard pressed to get away from a railroad track.

So true Dave!  Looking back over my journal not long ago I noticed  at least a half dozen references to “the trestle hole”.  Almost all of my favorite Pa haunts are bordered by tracks.  As I replay the fishing memories in my head I suddenly hear the sound of a train whistle.  On a somewhat similar note I am doing a kick ass trip this spring where the only way to access this particular river is to pay the conductor to “randomly” stop the train in the middle of BFE and you hop out with your gear.  Four days later you have to wait on the tracks to get a ride back.  Should be killer.

The area at Rim Shoals is very low.  So low that I sheared my drive shaft in two on my E-Tec on a boulder.  Lots of good fishing though.

That sucks about your drive shaft.

Construction is unfortunately a fact of life on most southern tailwaters.

The White has seen a ton of development in the last 20 years, and that trend isnt going to change any time soon. The fishing has gone downhill too..

If your looking for something more remote try the trout stretch of the Eleven Point in Missouri. It can be crowded on a warm summer weekend, but its pretty rare to see anyone in the Winter months, go in the Monday-Wednesday timeframe during the Summer. Cheers.

You are missing out…There are some undeveloped gems nearby…The Eleven Point, Jack’s Fork, Current, & Buffalo are all protected from developement by the National Park Service or the USFS under scenic river designations.

There are plenty of trout on sections of the Current & Eleven Point..and the Jack’s & Buffalo have great smallmouth fishing.

Think you could get to Greer Spring on the Eleven Point quicker than you could drive to Mountain Home. Canoe rentals & guide services are available at Eleven Point Canoe Rental in Alton, MO. Cheers.

    Billy,

Did you ever try your scuba photography/videography idea on the White?
