    Hey guys –

A few years ago I made myself a rod rack for holding strung rods and their cases.

I stapled a rope across two of my joists in the garage making loops as I went. Small loops where the tips go and big loops where the reel handles go. Works like a charm and rods stay up high and out of danger. That is until the tornado but even then I only lost one rod. And it just happened to be my Dan Craft Sig V 8’4″ that was IMO one of the finest light trout blanks ever made, and also irreplaceable…

The Dan Craft Sig V is indead a great blank.  He still has some of the Sig V’s in stock, but I didn’t see that one.  Might be worth an email to see if he has any or may have some in the future.  I’m not sure they are producing that series any more.

My storage system is a cardboard box in the closet that holds all my rod cases upright.  For rigged rods, I just lay them in the garage up against a chest.  Not the best way I’m sure, but I don’t like keeping rods rigged long particularly out in the garage in the Florida heat.

Bob that blank was the original sig V series and parts for it are nowhere to be found. Guess I should see if anyone is looking for the last two sections out there somewhere.

For tube storage, I have a shelf that they all stack in neatly.

I screwed two pieces of flat steel to the ceiling in the garage and use the same magnetic brackets I use on the car that go on the hood and roof

I like the tube rack. Looks good to me. I have been building furniture longer than I have been fly fishing.

One improvement might be to use a router to create circular divots for the bottom of the tube as well so the bottom of the tube stays put. You could also use two boards(Drill completely through the top board with a hole saw to make the space for the bottom of the tube. Leave the second board complete to create the base for the bottom of the tube to rest on.)

YOu could clamp the top board and bottom board s that would recieve holes at the same time on your drill press or even if you used a hand drill and a strandard hole saw.

I keep my rods and reels in the safe.
