MemberHowdy Sportsfans…

A new hood ornament greets us Boulder Lodge nowMade it back to Musky Country in basically one piece after a coast to coast road trip this past winter…THANKS to all the folks in the fly fishing community who put me and Penny up along the trail…and those that bought a round or two…and those that just come out and said Howdy at the stops along the way…
I’d put a list together if a) I could remember it all and b) if it really mattered to those humble folks who open up their lives…you all know who you are and you also know that you are WELCOME at my place any time you can get here!

The Musky Lab wintered well…and is now UP and Running…new flavor FJ too…It’s good to be H O M E :cool

It’s been really shitty weatherwise…winter holding on tough…spring will last a total of about three daze…
These tell me that it is time to use these…
here

with her

I have been getting back into the troots this season…last year I was pretty one-dimensional with all musky all the time…and now I am getting back to my roots and the everything_has_its_season philosophy…

Met up wit Lucky on the river that flows north for some lakerun action…

It felt good to get back into that one…
So I broke out the tiny gear for the first time in a long spell…

Decisions, Decisions…

OK…you win…

I love cane, agate and vintage English blue…Everything else is a matter of keeping it simple Stupid!

The Hendricksons came off like pink smoke…and I got all over a bunch of these…So much so that I called up a friend and had him come out and share in the festivities…

He brought his boy out and that was really a good deal!

Ya for me now it is mostly about things on my terms…I’ll fish for what pleases me, with what pleases me, where it pleases me and with whom I am pleased…I can live with this sort of way :cheer
Oh I found another pretty cool deal recently too…

Throwing ‘hawks at a local establishment…not a bad way to while away an hour or two…
Now it’s back to this stuff for a spell…

Till next time…

Mike LewisMemberGreat report Brad, thanks for the read. Looks like you have some beautiful country up there, I’m envious.
One question, it looks like you reels on the musky rods are left hand retrieve and the trout rods are right hand retrieve. Any particular strategy there?

MemberIt was great meeting you in Atlanta Brad! Glad you made it through the tour without too many scars (physical ones at least). I love your photo-report above, that is strong work.
How did it feel to hold the tiny rod in your hand 😉

MemberMike…I got reels that run both ways throughout the entire arsenal. No rhyme or reason really. Clients come to us lefty and righty so it works well to have some of each…I guess that’s it.
Neal…I’ll prolly regret typing this someday but it felt really good to have a tiny rod in my hand. I’m happy to be casting whatever for well, whatever man. The crappie just started to come in from deep water up here now and we be fixin to Get Some in the next day or two now…
Here is some more stuff…
Things continue to heat up in Musky Country…last week saw the conditions fluctuate a great deal – it dropped to 40F from the 70’s and put a big damper on stuff…oh well, makes for a good day of photo editing and emailing and fly tying and such.
Got into some decent minnow trapping after a big thunderstorm on Tuesday night…

The object of the predator fishes desire in early May in Musky Country…and a good place to begin fly design;)Got back to the troot stream a few more times…still a good Hendrickson emergence…

Getting bent deep by fatty salmo truttas!

And the first warmwater float of the 2011 campaign…

Bronzebacks are fat with pre-spawn cargo and on the hunt…a few pike as well…but still NO musky…yet!
A view of basecamp…Boulder Lodge landing from the dam on Ghost Lake.Later :cool
