Wyoming should not be on that list. There are many other states with much better fishing.

Interesting list.  If I were to put together a list, Michigan would not even come into the discussion, but then again, I’ve never fished there.

If Florida just had some mountains and trout streams, I would never leave.  Even without them, Florida has more accessable water than anywhere in the country.  Granted Lousianna has better fishing if you can get to it, but have you ever tried to park your car, get out, walk down to the water and catch a snook.

But I agree, since “The Movie” Montana is the place everyone dreams about.  My personal favorite though, is Alaska, which is the very antithesis of Florida.

Pennsylvania left off i can agree with. If we had a fish commission that could manage fishing worth a darn, it could be number 2.

Who else agrees with Mark that Yellowstone NP does not have noteworthy fishing?

I’d like to personally thank everyone who leaves Michigan off of their list of best fly fishing states.

    No fish there.

    😉

OK, I will give you Yellowstone, but the rest of that God-forsaken state sucks.

I’d have to put Mass. on this list if flyfishing for Striped Bass, False Albacore, Bonito or Bluefish from the surf is your thing.

    I agree with Tim.

Yes, Wyoming sucks. And Yellowstone isn’t really Wyoming (neither is J-Hole…), different license and everything! The fishing shop I worked at in high school used to get a bunch of tourists heading to Yellowstone. I told them to grab some Parachute Adams and have a good time. Don’t worry about anything they saw along the way….

I’m glad to see my favorite state for fly fishing continues to fly under the radar.

    As it should.

And to note: although an amazingly good state for fishing, Montana has little variety.

When you started fly fishing, where did you want to go most?  There’s a reason for that.

    Zach

I am fairly sure, that if you think about that last statement, you would agree that when you 1st started fly fishing there was a bit of ignorance inherit in some of the opinions you held.

BTW, Zach the state I go to 3 times each year for week long trout fishing is not on your list.

    Roy

PS Time to start packing the bags, Hennys should be on the water soon!!

I think it’s funny how many of us get up in arms about the “best” states for fly fishing. Last time I checked you can fish anywhere and the “best” just depends on the day and who you are with or not with…

With that said it’s is totally based on opinion and where you spend most of your time.
