I’m looking to develop a list of rivers which can be floated in a drift boat that have opportunities to camp along the float.

    Andrew,

There are a bunch out this way that are floatable, flows depending of course.

    Dave, I suppose so!

I did some research a few years back for west coast trips but I’m seriously lacking ideas on the east coast for a wilderness camping float trip.

Greg’s right, the Savage is not a floatable river in a drift boat.

Cant help you back east…but I do allot of canoe camping in the Ozarks..You might want to check out some of the rivers that have National Scenic Riverway designations from the National Park Service, or those that have Wild & Scenic riverway designations from the U.S. Forest Service…we have 4 of them within a days drive of St. Louis and you can camp anywhere you want along those rivers.

It can be hard to find a spot to camp on streams with allot of private frontage. In that situation you either day float & stay someplace else, camp on the river and take your chances with the local landowners, or play it safe and find a private campground to use as a base camp. Good luck!

At most fishable flows, the NB of the Potomac will eat a drift boat.  If you run a plastic (hdpe) boat, it might be doable, but I would be really cautious.  There is a reason you see mostly rafts floating down there.

If you are a warmwater guy, you have plenty of options within a few hours of driving.  Focusing on trout limits you a lot more with regard to locations and even flow conditions.

I run a Clacka here in SWPA and the floating for trout thing can get pretty bumpy here by June.

    A wilderness float?

    Wilderness?
In PA, the furthest I think you can go into the wilderness is something like 7 miles.
