This is what I love about Georgia – – – The fact that you can actually fish in February.  I had a chance to hit a local pond today and the fishing was very good.  The purpose of this post is to highlight 1)you don’t have to travel hundreds of miles to fish, 2)you don’t have to spend lots of money, 3)you don’t need an expensive camera to take good photos, and 4)you can be itinerant in your own back yard and out of the trunk of your car.

All pictures taken with the iPhone.

This pond is just down the street and right in the middle of crowded suburban Atlanta (Thankfully I have permission to fish it at will).

Early morning photos (I used my polarized sunglasses as a make-shift filter).

The Gear – straight out of the trunk of my car.

    The Fish

Bass (fly is a rubber legged leach)

Bluegill (fly is a long-rubber legged dragon)

MONSTER Koi (some are at least 10-20 lbs) – I leave them alone out of respect

    I want one of these!

The inevitable fly line pile out of the float tube.

Go ahead and cast to the koi.  I bet they fight like a carp if you could get one to bite.  I find it hard to believe that YOU have never casted to one….think of them as baby tarpon
