Omnitrax – Korkers Wading Boots?

I’m in the market for new wading boots. It’s probably Zach’s fault for posting the New Products thread and the Korkers Chrome product due in Jan.
Do those of you who use Korkers today like the Omitrax 2.0 system? Is the 3.0 a major upgrade? I was always nervous about buying the 2.0 system because it looked like the felt was higher than the actual boot sole seemingly providing less platform to keep your balance.
I was browsing MidCurrent yesterday and noticed that Korkers is introducing a Svelt (Felt substitute). I also saw that Orvis is putting out a wading boot that is using the Omitrax 2.0 technology.
Yes, the upgrade is much much better. I’ve been testing the svelt for sometime now, it pretty sticky but doesn’t last long as you might like. BUT you can get a replacement ; )
I have had my eye on the new Korkers since I first heard about them back in September. Looks like they are much improved with the complete coverage with the soles. Does anyone know when they will be available?
The new system is awesome! Simple to use and just an all around great boot. So much so that I became a dealer recently. The drainage system in the boots is the best on the market in my opinion. My biggest gripe about Simms boots is they take FOREVER to dry out! Not a good thing if you are traveling out of country and you are trying to maximize your fishing time.
The svelt sole looks like a solid idea, but they are a bit on the expensive side and even the rep told me that they would not last very long if you were tramping up and down river banks. I think studded Kling-ons would be the way to go for the slippery stuff.

John, I read that Korkers is keeping the 2.0 soles in current production for at least another year. so you shouldn’t need to run out and stock up quite yet.
Ok, was able to go to a local fly shop yesterday to get a first look at both the Chrome and the Metalhead although they didn’t have my size in the Chrome.
Just noticed this thread .. I’ll give a +1 for Korkers.
I have been wearing the guide boots for over a year now and I LOVE them. Convert from Simms and I wont be going back. They are super light weight and the Boa system rocks. Can’t wait to get my hands on a pair with the new sole system. I had a chance to check them out earlier this year and I’m pretty excited.
I just got my new pair of Korkers Chrome wading boots last weekend after 3 months on the waiting list. They are incredible! the new exchangeable sole system is a major upgrade and you can literally just step into them and they click in place.
I will be putting my new Korkers to the ultimate test in about a month fishing the rugged waters of New Zealand. I will have a testing mate Simon Chu even testing them further after I leave. Mine will return with me to Montana where I will proceed to beat the hell out of them for the next 6 or 7 months guiding folks on Montana’s rugged waters.
Truth be told I was very impressed with these boots the second I laid eyes on them. They are so incredibly well designed I immediately set up an account with Korkers so I could carry the boots in the shop. I have always worn Simms. They are good boots but man they get heavy and the damn things never seem to dry out! The drainage in the Korkers and lack of water absorption is down right impressive! I can’t wait to test these boots in the very near future!

I just love the term “upgrade” being used in footwear. It’s so … futuristic … computer-ish. What happened to getting it right the first time? This is the third iteration of their “system,” and no one wonders why? Fascinating.
When a company with footwear meant to be submerged in water tells you to “presoak the boots before wearing,” and, “stuff the toe box with plastic grocery bags after you get out of the water,” you know something is wrong, and you know you have been used in place of research-and-development. That was my experience with Korkers Version 2.0.
That said, I did like them for walking, and liked the carbide tipped soles for hopping granite jetties (even if a few tips did quickly disappear). Unfortunately, the toe boxes continued to shrink until I had to give them away to a smaller footed newbie. So, my long term review (sure would like to read more LONG TERM reviews) goes like this;
Price – Reasonable
Comfort – Poor
Durability – Poor
Versatility – Very Good
Fit – Good then Bad
Soles – Lost Only One
Perhaps Korkers 3.0 are the real deal. I may be old school, and I do wear Red Wing boots, but changing something as functional as wading boots seems a bit … “by design” in my opinion.
