MemberHey guys,
I am helping out with a non-profit WWII aircraft museum trying to help them come up with some fund raising ideas. All the aircraft are in flying condition and they do a lot of corporate events and tours around the Texas metroplex. They will pretty much do anything that sounds fun and that they can break even on. These aircraft have a lot of maintanence and fuel cost isnt cheap so it can get expensive.
My question to you…. Would you be willing to pay $2000 per person to take WWII DC-3, B-25 (ect) for a like a 4 day trip to a fishing location?
I know its kinda a broad question.. missing where, when, group size, so on.. but i am just trying to get a feel if this is something even worth looking into. Let me know what you think, and if you have any comments or ideas of how to make the trip better or any other ideas I would be all ears..
Thanks
Chad

MemberThanks for the input guys
Colin: as for the destination it can be anywhere really. I know the crew has gone from Canada to South America. It would just depend on the group choice.. however im sure we are talking more money for fuel the further so maybe a higher cost the further away.
Aaron: you are correct it is a very distinct niche. Here is my thinking… above all other anglers, Fly fishing usually does have the most disposable income, expecially the fly fisherman that is already traveling to far off distances. I also thought that (and this is all just my thoughts.. no real proof to back it up) the marrage of fly fishing and ‘History Buff’ would be a harmonous one considering fly fishermen and fly fishing in general have close ties to tradition and nastalgic ways. (I bet nastalgic is spelt wrong, and $20 bucks says Dusty Montgomery corrects me on it)
The small niche isnt a problem because this isnt a mass recruitment effort. They have had small pretty particuler group come through.
I just thought it was a fun idea and if it worked I would probably get to tag along…. selfish i know, but so worth it

Allan DozierMemberI have a fondness for those old aircraft and WWII in general.
I plan on living forever, so far so good.

MemberI think it would make an interesting story in a magazine – particularly if it was a bonefish or exploratory trip to some of the old Pacific bases used in WWII. I’m guessing local governments might consider chipping in some of the costs to increase tourism exposure as well?

MemberThe story idea is excellent – maybe run the trip as a break even with hopes that publicity might result in more revenues.

MemberMay I suggest a category for “Sounds FREAKING AWESOME but I would never be able to afford it”
Seems like there is a lot of that kind of thing.
