The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
I’m looking for a specific product that has to exist but I can’t find one.

MemberI haven’t had much luck with french presses or filters in the field as I hate the sediment.

Michael PhillippeMemberZach, I’ve experimented with ways to make good coffee for years! If you are OK with French press coffee one like GSI should do well. I’ve used a similar (and less elegant one) for about twenty years. But, I’ve been taking a look at the new Jet Boil units since I wouldn’t need a separate stove.
My bigger problem is that I hate powdered creamer….

Bob RigginsMemberHave you ever tried Folgers Singles. They come in bags like tea bags. I have used them and they make a good cup of coffee. Not gourmet, but very acceptable. I like strong coffee, so I double up with two bags for a mug of coffee.

I think Maxwell House also makes them.
Of course, they don’t have the cachet of a “French Press”.

MemberI’d agree with dropping the cash on the Cadillac version if you foresee heavy use.
Here’s another option in case you need something you can kick around guilt-free, though.

Can’t speak to it myself, but reviews seem to tell the tale…

OK Mark, someone has to ask what’s a coffee sock, and how goes your winter so far.

MemberHi Zack
I have used the Jet boil burner with a aluminium coffemug/press and it works ok, but the problem with all the metal cups is that they get uncomfortably warm for handling. And it often boils over and then it is very easy to get burned when trying to turn of the gas, because the regulator is hard to reach.
I have been most happy with a classic Bodum French press
http://www.bodumusa.com/shop/line.asp?MD=1&GID … UB14SBF8G5I find that i most often also boil water for food or for the wife’s tea when making coffee so i end up using a bigger pot.

MemberGSI Outdoors H2jO – http://www.rei.com/product/750397 . That’s what I use, but it doesn’t eliminate the need for a container to boil water with. Coarse grind you beans though.

MemberZach – I’d pay the extra $30 bucks for the snow peak if you plan to drag this on one of your backcountry haunts. The Campmor press weighs nearly a pound more!
