Man, I don’t know what you did to deserve a trip to Branson but I suggest whatever it was you don’t do it again.

That being said, I don’t have any suggestions on shops but if you want to fish a river with native fish, no stockers, go 1.5 hrs east of Branson to the North Fork of the White in Tecumseh Mo. Contact http://www.riveroflifefarm.com/ for guide services.

Beautiful float down a spring fed river for native rainbows, well worth the trip.

Ask around over at Ozarkanglers.com….plenty of info on fishing Missouri….and there are lots of Taney regulars over there..Phil Lilley owns the site, and he operates a resort on Taney..Lilley’s Landing…nice fly shop, and I’m sure he could hook you up with someone..
Angler’s & Archers is another good shop down there.

A drive from K.Zoo to Branson would probably take you through St. Louis and down I-44 on your way to Branson…theres plenty of fishing near the highway…check out MDC’s trout fishing information here.

    Have a great trip.

You lucky dog!!  I love Branson at Christmas.
As for guides, I love River Run Outfitters, http://www.riverrunoutfitters.com/
I’ve used them before and they’re a blast.

I’ve heard great things about Jeremy at Taneycomo Trout but I’ve never used him.  Let us know how the trip goes.

It’s a little drive but Crane Creek is a lot of fun too.

Jeremy is a good guy. He will put you on some fish.

We will be fishing Taney the nights of the 27th and 28th and Crane somewhere in between.

Jeremy or Chuck will put you on fish for sure.  If they’re running water, Chuck will take you by boat and drift.

There’s also some good feeder creeks that run into Taney that are good in the winter.  Bret Rader has got those places down.

Am looking for a very good winter season here on Taney.  Rainbows are in great shape.  Water levels are down (lakes) and this should yield to no generation periods on Taney.  Patterns are water running in the am and off in the pm.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the input, I’m going to make an effort to stop in on a few of the different shops while I am down that way.

Yep, he IS Lilley’s Landing. He has a nice resort, nice flyshop and he is a nice guy.

    You are welcome Phil.

I hope you have a good trip. I live 50 miles from Taneycomo and consider it my home water. Was there yesterday afternoon and the fishing was really good. One bow pushing 20″ made my day. Very uncrowded (unlike the summer months) as well.

Branson itself is not everyone’s cup of tea but my wife and I like it. We both grew up taking weekend trips there.

PS: I’ve met Jeremy a couple of times and he’s active on the OAF forum that I use. Seems like a really good guy. I’m sure he’ll treat you right. I’d be interested in knowing how your trip was.

    Follow-up:

Thanks a lot for all your replies.  I fished the 22nd and 23rd with Jeremy.  It was my first experience with dedicated streamer fishing for those larger predatory trout, and I wasn’t disappointed.  We hit the White River below Bull Shoals both days, and I had a great time.

    Day 1:

We started out the day on dirty water, and there were about 45 minutes when we were questioning our decision to hit the White that day.  We hugged the bank and slowed down for a while and the good water came.  We floated the river until after dark when the water started dropping out on us.  We finished the day with a number of fish in the 16-18 inch range.  My fishing partner, Tom, capped the day with a 21 inter after dark.

    Day2:

With a sore arm, I had looked forward to throwing lighter lines and flies on the Norfork.  Fortunately, Jeremy convinced me that we would be better off hunting big fish back at the White.  Consistent generation for several hours, gave us high and very clean water.  It didn’t take long to know we were going to have a good day.  We were able to hook up and land several good fish.

Including my personal best 24 incher.

And when I was physically too sore to cast any more, Jeremy stepped in and brought a few fish to the boat. His best being this fish over 20 inches.

So, to wrap it up. Thanks to everyone here for all the help, and thank you to Jeremy Hunt of Flies & Guides / taneycomotrout.com. Jeremy kept me on the water and gave this beginner a good combination of encouragement and instruction.  I had a great time on the White and learning what it takes to throw these big streamers and bang the banks for big predatory trout.

I agree.  The color on these fish is really great.  Plus, the biomass on the White is just amazing.  I’m hooked on this fishery, and I will be back.

Next time you are in the area you might give Taneycomo a try too. It’s a pretty awesome fishery as well.
