As I promised, here is a report on my recent trip.

A fellow I work with and I had the privilege to go fish with Forrest Smith, owner of Trout & Timber Outfitters this past few days. Our first day was spent on the Norfork due to funky flows on the white. Forrest mentioned that the fishery had struggled the past few years but it was making a come back. We did very well on nymph rigs, mostly copper johns and sow bugs.  We had a slam for the boat, landing a brookie, brown, rainbow and a cutthroat. We caught tons and tons of rainbows. They were everywhere.

That night we decided to go after the big boys on the Norfork. We went and waded just below the dam at around 9pm. We caught fish, but nothing with the size we were looking for.

The next day, we put in on the White just below the dam. We started off fishing hoppers which produced a few fish. We then switched back and forth between hoppers and nymph rigs. We floated all day and into dusk.  Once the sun set, Forrest put some big streamers on the rods and we hammered the banks until the take out.

Forrest mentioned that the last part of the float had a bunch of big fish. He was right. Travis hooked up and landed this toad. Such a beautiful fish!

Sorry for the quick report. Don’t have enough time to think about writing right now. Hope you all enjoyed!

Not only is that a nice fish…but I really like the angle and exposure on the night-time photo.

    Sweet!

A 22 pound fish was just caught on the White itself last week.
