    Zach….If/when you decide to purchase another pad….I bought a Big Agnes pad last year and have been really pleased with the comfort and durability of their product. It is extremely lightweight and compact as well. I was a lifelong Therma-rest customer until I fell in love with Big Agnes

    I’ve also recently picked up a Mt. Alps 0 degree rated bag and Big Agnes pad and have been pleased, so far. Have only used them on two trips.

    As far as bags go, my Marmot Never Summer 0 deg bag was lights out down to temps around 30.

    What’s your cost on shipping a piece of oversized luggage via UPS?  I’ve not had a bag loss problem except by third world airlines, and I’m thinking that might be prohibitively expensive.  I’d rather go small and get everything on.

    Zach..
    Your cost is directly proportional to the weight you are shipping and the amount of ins you wish to buy.  You can easily spend a $100 on a 50+ pound bag with $3-5K of ins.  OTOH, what would you be willing to pay if you are standing in the Jackson airport, without your checked bags, and the airline is not sure where your bag is or when it will arrive.

    We each have to do a cost benefit analysis on these issues.
