For sheer numbers I find a black bluegill spider with white legs (you can find the pattern on the internet or there is a book by terry and roxanne wilson.) but topwaters are more fun. Sometimes bluegills will hit any topwater but when they won’t an ant fly with rubber legs will usually get it done.

Don’t let these guys give you any lip about fishing bluegills either. Bluegills are fun, I fish for them, and probably everybody else here has fished for them too.

Carter Nelson’s Rubber-Legged Dragon is about the perfect “killer” bluegill fly.  Black, Black/Chartreuse, and yellow are the best colors.

Residing in KS we are forced to be warm water experts! I’ve had great success with Egan’s headstands in tan and rust colors.
