My wife is thinking about visiting/fishing Yellowstone for a week in Mid October or early November. Is this a pipe dream or not? Firehole? Madison? I’m assuming the weather will be a little fickle. Any information is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Rolf

    Rolf,

Park season closes end of October.  October is prime time on Firehole and Madison.  No crowds, crisp weather and lots of fish. Got to be prepared for the likes of this: http://www.itinerantangler.com/cgi-bin/board/YaBB.pl?num=1255313331/0#0

    MIke,
I remember that day well, laying in bed with my head feeling like it was ready to explode and coughing all night.

Between the lakes on the Madison can be awesome in October. Check out http://www.CampfireLodgeWestYellowstone.com. They have cabins, rv parking and campsites are on the Madison between the lakes in the Gallatin Nat’l Forest. Plus, their rates are very reasonable. I stayed there for 4 days back in July. They also have an awesome fly tying shop with over 1000 Whiting capes and saddles in stock… see http://www.JimsFlyCo.com.

The Madison should be primed as well as the Firehole. Early Nov can have some big browns move up so good luck chasing a few. May try and get back late Oct myself again
