Hey guys –
I had a real fun time meeting a lot of folks from this board today on the upper Hooch, even if most of you were going by your NGTO handles.
Neal and I caught a lot of trout; I think I wound up landing around twenty and managed not to break any gear (more of an achievement than you’d think under the circumstances :)). As I’m sure will be mentioned shortly, I did a spectacular faceplant off my boat (I like to fish standing up). I had just been congratulating myself on how smart my drag chain/pontoon idea was when the chain wedged in a downed tree. Ejector seat!
Being as it was 98 today, a cold bath every now and then didn’t hurt much. I think I got dunked three times; once on the log, once when I just forgot where I was and took a step backwards into nothing, and once on purpose to dig my anchor out of another snag. All told, provided you’re nimble and you don’t mind getting wet, it’s a hell of a way to fish.
The fog this morning was all-encompassing. I should really have taken more pictures, but I’ll definitely be making that float again.

I also got a chance to test out my new pheasant tails that I shamelessly ripped off of Randy Hanner’s box (which I photographed for copying*). I think technically these are some kind of “Frenchy,” but I don’t tie them exactly the same as the original. The rusty brown one I know accounted for 18 trout, because I wanted to see how well it would perform and I kept count for once.
