Wader Bag / Gear Storage

I’m in need of some advice on a new wader/gear bag.

I was at the exact same place that you are about two years ago.  After lots of consideration and interviews of friends, I went with the FishPond Cimmeron Wader Duffle.

Here’s Why:
It’s a one bag system. The bag goes over my shoulder, one rod strapped to the bag, perhaps a second rod in my hand, done.  Everything else, lunch, bottle opener, chest pack, reels, drinks, sunscreen, change of clothes, back up boxes, tippet, thermos etc. goes inside.  Waders and boots go into the bottom breathable compartment.  It’s got a built in wader mat to streach out over the snow or gravel and the bag converts to a backpack if nessessary.  The bag is bomb proof, I beat the hell out of it and it looks like the day I bought it. Before this system I left the house with about three bags.  Now it’s just one.  I am a satisfied customer.  Good luck.

Yeah…that bag also takes up 90% of the space in the trunk of my Subaru…leaving no room for my gear or beer!

My wife and kids bought me the Wright & McGill Yellowstone bag for Father’s Day (after some hints).  It’s roughly the same size as the Fishpond Cimarron and cost $110 less.  It actually looks eerily similar to the Cimarron although Fishpond definatley gets big style points.  

Quality seems to be good, especially for the price (~$59).  I like the large teeth zippers (problem with my old Sage bag) and it has plenty of zippered storage areas inside and out.  

I haven’t loaded it with all of my winter gear, when I have my summer stuff loaded into it there is plenty of room.  This includes my fishing pack and it will zip with my net in it (another problem with my old Sage bag).  I also like it has two rod tube holders.

I’ve been using the Simms giant orange (no gray) waterproof duffel for a number of years.

BT Miller…did you contact SAGE to see if they would replace the bag since in your opinion there are some failed design in the bag?

No, I probably should have contacted Sage.

I use a large plastic milk crate to haul my boots, waders, and misc fishing junk to the river….Its not suitable for air travel, but it works great in the car, and for keeping stuff off the bottom of my canoe. For travel, I use a large Patagonia duffel with a wet & a dry side. Cheers.
