MemberTrying to sum up a great weekend:
We got home late last night, had to stop on the side of the road to watch the world cup match.
The wife’s friend grew up on a farm in the Catskills. She invited us up.
We stopped for gas and food in Wilkes Barre. I normally stop at Sheetz for a sub but we decided to go to the Pierogi place.
We got a dozen potato and cheese with onions and butter. A bit heavy but it filled my gut for the rest of the ride.
We arrived at the farm in the early afternoon and the trip almost became a disaster as the mini schnauzer jumped out of the car and ran into the horse field. He went under the fence and chased a horse. The horse was going to kick him so I jumped in after them. I tried to put myself between the horse and dr jones but they were running too fast.
At some point the dog realized this was a bad idea and stopped chasing the horse. I think the horse knew what was going on (they said she is smart enough to let herself out of her pen at night) and she was running away. After nearly craping myself it was time for a cold beer and an ATV ride.
We rode around the farm for at least 20 min on an ATV and never crossed the same area. This place was huge. We found a creepy broken down car in the woods with deer bones in the front seat

Enough of that, we got back to the house and it was time to fish.
I realized I brought 6 rods, enough for everyone, but 2 reels. I strung up a 5wt and my switch rod and went down solo. I started catching huge sunfish and bass right away. I hollered for the wife to join me and put a rod in her hands. She was tossing a bass bug and hooked up right away

She had enough after 5-6 largemouth and a few sunnies. We walked back from the farm pond and had a few sun-downers. Her dad gave us a handle of what we thought was vodka that he flavored with black currants. Turns out it was everclear. After the wasabi-esqe burn was done I decided to go back to the pond.
I had grabbed a handful of mouse patterns while packing the night before and tied one on and took this pic from the phone

Cast to the center and nothing, cast to the right (2nd cast) and caught a fish!

I caught a trout last summer on my mouse and now I’m catching bass. I caught several more and was getting ready to go back up to the house for a cigar when Todd and Decker pulled up on an ATV. She was moving logs out of the path and popped her knee cap out of place. I was stoked but the mood was somber.
We cooked out on the deck and watched the sun go below the mountains. The sunset colors matched the bruising on Decker’s knee. She iced it and we drank enough to play rock band by midnight.

MemberNice Report – Too bad you didn’t have more time on the Esopus, that’s the only tailwater on this side of the Catskills. (east)
