    Hi,

I am looking for a value for money 10′, 5 or 6 wt rod for some lake/farm dam fishing. As far as I am aware, St Croix are not distributed in Australia so cannot have a cast of one.

Does anyone have experience with these rods? Mainly interested in what line is suited to them. They get some good write ups and the price is certainly reasonable.

As I typed this, I realised that I have not bought a graphite rod since the Sage SP+ were available. Was that mid to late 90s? Planing your own bamboo is great but 10′ is pushing it a bit!

    Cheers,

    Callum.

    Hi Karsten,

Definitely after a 10′ rod. It is just for one of those specialised situations and the amount of times it would get used does not warrant spending top dollar (but of course I want something decent!).

Most of my fishing these days is with bamboo but I do not have any problem picking up the SP+ when the need arises. I generally make rods in the 6′-7’6″ range to suit the waters down in the Snowies so the 10 footer would be a bit of fun. Mind you, I also have a 13′ tenkara rod.

    Cheers,

    Callum

Good luck with the hunt for your 10 footer Callum.
I’ve been interested in a Tenkara rod for a while, how do you find it?

I also dabble in making bamboo rods, didn’t make it to the last southern highlands meet. Hope to make it to the next one if there is one.

    Karsten,

I was thinking of a possible maker’s gathering in late September/early October. Will let you know if it eventuates.

    Cheers,

    Callum
