This video from NPR Science Friday shows a catepillar that lives on land and in water. I find it rather interesting and maybe you will to.
a. having just watched the video, the organism and its habits make it apear to be a certain other insect to the untrained eye. There is no mention of nomenclature or other reasons why this is identified as a catepillar. Wikipedia breaks its down http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyposmocoma
b. do we need to create a new fly category, say a ‘weterrestrial’ ?
Reporting in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, entomologists Daniel Rubinoff and Patrick Schmitz, of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, describes 12 new species of caterpillar yposmocoma). These Hawaiian moth larvae can live their lives completely submerged underwater or in bone-dry conditions. Rubinoff says he doesn’t know of another animal that can pull this off.
