MemberHi all,
In about two weeks we’ll be taking the boys to Breckenridge for a spring break ski vacation. We’ll be there long enough that I will probably be able to sneak in a half day of fishing. (Both of my boys ski WAY better than me, so they won’t mind a break from looking after me on the slopes. My my, how the roles reverse so fast.) I’ve found quite a bit of information about local fishing opportunities, but I’d appreciate any additional advice you care to share.
Thanks,

MemberI would suggest avoiding the blue below green mtn. In the winter it is pretty sketchy getting down there and back up without a freeslide. prettty icy and steep.
The best shop in the area is probably breckenridge outfitters. Cutthroat has a well earned bad reputation amongst colorado anglers. I’d fish the blue in town and the dream stream for big fish oppurtunities. the blue can be pretty tough at times.
If those aren’t fishing well head over to parshall on the colorado for an afternoon. You can usually find some risers there and there are a couple of holes that just stack up with fish in the winter time

I picked up an ice axe to get down there and back out :).
Guess i forget about getting in and out for others now that it has become 2nd nature for me. On a side note, that parking lot is not always great in winter. I got stuck once and had to use dry cow pats that were under a pine tree-wedged them in and around wheels for traction. It worked (didn’t have floor mats at the time)Feb 26, 2010 at 5:26 pm #42214Brian Moffitt
MemberI would have to agree with Adam about Cutthroat Anglers.

MemberGlad to see the Breck Outfitter compliments. They have the history and awards to prove why they are the go-to outfitter in and around that section of the state.
I’ve only stopped into Cutthroat on a whim to pick up thingamabobers. I’ve never had any issues and have spent time talking about the big trout that used to be in the tank.
I want to avoid people ganging up on Cutthroat on a message board since they most likely won’t see this and be able to defend web bashing.
Again to the blue below the green reservoir, for those who do get down there, they find its all to themselves and the fish have not seen a fly since the last person ventured down there.

Understood, but a well earned reputation–good or bad–will preceed you.

MemberRob,
I agree completely, and please nobody interpret what I said as bashing Cutthroat Anglers.

MemberThanks to everyone for the advice. I’ll pack a rod and waders, and see if I can’t get away for a few hours this week. Forecast calls for temps in the mid 30’s . . .
