I was the owner/caretaker of the Classic Fly Rod Forum until July 2009 when I turned it over to the new owners/caretakers. In 2007 I was given a beautiful one of a kind bamboo rod made by Argentine Rod Maker Marcelo Calviello called the Classic Fly Rod Forum Rod. It was given in friendship and gratitude for what the forum does for bamboo fanatics world wide and to do with as I decided as long as it promoted those same ideals.

I contacted Project Healing Waters to see if they would be interested in receiving the rod for their fund raising efforts. What follows is the event where that presentation will take place, if you have an interest in fly fishing, bamboo rods, are a veteran or know a veteran who might be interested and can make the event feel free to come or pass the information along to them, thanks.

Superboo VII will be held Feb 6 2010 at the Lawrence Jr High School Gym in Fairfield ME. If you are coming north take I95 to ME139 then exit 132 toward Fairfield/Benton follow ME 139 (it veers right) then turn right on School Street and you’ll see where all the vehicles are parked and signs at the front doors. Matt Bolinder, owner of Matt’s Coffee, will be there graciously providing his wonderful coffee for all to enjoy and he’ll have some bamboo roasted coffee for sale with all proceeds to benefit the Jr High Fly Fishing Club. Plenty of great rods will be there to oogle and sample, plenty of good conversation about bamboo rods as well. There will be a swap table, raffle tickets and lunch items for sale by the Fly Fishing Club and I will be presenting the Classic Fly Rod Forum Rod, made by Marcelo Calviello, to the group from Project Healing Waters at 11:00, hope you can make it.

As a side note, this Friday at 9:00 p.m. the director of Project Healing Waters, one of his staff and 2 wounded warriors will meet Marcelo Calviello for dinner in Buenos Aires to discuss bamboo rods and in particular the Classic Fly Rod Forum Rod. Let’s give Marcelo a big round of applause for his generosity!

and a report from the dinner in Argentina!

This is a report by Marcelo Calviello who gave the Classic Fly Rod Forum Rod to me in 2007 in gratitude and with friendship. It is this rod I will present to Project Healing Waters at Superboo VII. From here on it’s Marcelo

We had a great night yesterday in the dinner with the Project Healing Waters group. We spend all the night talking about flyfishing, bamboo rods, rodmaking, BOBFS, argentine rivers, flies, friends, life and specially about our world.

The group will fly tomorrow to Bariloche city and then after a good rest they will be going to fish for 3 days the Caleufu rivers, one of our jewels here. Them they will trip to Junín de los Andes and fish the Chimehuin, “The Boca” and the Malleo River. They will have a great fishing trip.

I´m so happy and so proud to help a little this wonderful group and so special cause. You as USA residents are very proud about this guys because they are protecting and fighting for you country and your flag. I as a resident of the world am proud also because they protect and fight for the peace in the world.

At the left:  Douglas Dear (Chairman of the Board PHWFF), Marcelo Calviello, Brian Mancini  (Sergeant First Class, US Army), Josh Cadenbach (Specialist, US Army), Shaun Meadows (Staff Sergeant, US Air Force)
At the right: Jerry Nonnemacher (Volunteer), Pat Valdez (SGT Major, US Army), Edwin Nicholson (US
    Beef Attack!!

Hope you can enjoy this in the same way I done yesterday, they’re wonderful guys. This is a great cause and deserves all our support.
Have a great SuperBoo at February 6th.

    Best regards from Argentina

Great post and great story! I have two good friends who are very involved in Project Healing Waters (in fact one of them created the logo above for them) and I can tell you first hand that this is an organization that changes people lives for the better. I think it is awesome that such a special rod was given to them Giuliani. What your kindness has done for those soliders is something that will last forever!

Great to hear from you Sante.  I see you are still looking out for your fellow man.  That is a great gesture.

I can understand why the podcast is still in the top 10.
