MemberI normally don’t post but constantly follow the board and enjoy learning from all of you. I received some good info this past year while planning a trip to Twin Bridges, Montana and fishing with the guys at the Stone Fly Inn. The experience was great but I now have my sights set on Jackson, WY in the mid-Sept to October timeframe. I’m looking for recommendations for a guide service that can handle the Snake, South Fork of the Snake and possibly something in Yellowstone. I know it’s early but, with this cold weather, I’ve got nothing else to do. Thanks for your advice.

The Itinerant AnglerThe big shop in Jackson is Jack Dennis’ shop on the square, which can definitely handle it, but I had a great time floating the Snake with Westbank Anglers’ guides when I was out there in 2005.

MemberThis is a previous post on the Snake. Zack posted some great photos from the same time frame you want to come out.

Memberits hard to do the Snake in the park without a guide, that boat trip is incredible and can only really be soaked in from the boat ( make sure you reserve a park section float)
The Southfork can only be done by boat as well, otherwise a do it yourself trip is possible.Jan 13, 2010 at 10:50 pm #41163
Eric WellerMemberIf I was you I would travel the extra distance and fish the Madison River, between the lakes and in the park.

Tim AngeliMemberGreg,
I’d be happy to share locations around Jackson and in Yellowstone that have been good for me in the past.

MemberIf you want to fish the South Fork ( I would over the main Snake ANYDAY!) go with JD Miller from Henry’s Fork Angler………….hands down, the best money you could spend. I think there a few guys on this board that have used him in the past……maybe they will chime in.

+1 for JD Miller. That would be money very well spent if he’s got an opening.

Jack Dennis and Westbank are overrated.
+1 for High Country Flies. They have always been good to me when I have visited their shop. Don’t overlook Flat Creek, it is my favorite place up there. Challenging, but well worth it (sorry for the poor pic quality).
