MemberWas down last weekend. Fishing was good. Probably not making it this weekend, but again the next. Just watch the wind. If one of the southern variations (SE, SW), fishing can be tough. Conversely, if a northern (NE, NW), usually OK. Good reports from a couple of sites that contain regularly updated info.
Good luck!

MemberLooks like you’re gonna nail it, Allan!
I was out two weeks ago. It was spotty at best but we did manage some blues and Spanish Mackerel. A few weeks before that I went out with a few vets from Project Healing Waters with Sarah Gardner. No albies and lots of wind but Sarah being Sarah got them into sight casting for reds! One of the troopers brought a fine batch of fillets home!
I was offered to head out with a couple CFFC members but just couldn’t. I guess my conscience ruled on this one. I can’t find myself playing all of the time while my bride brings home the bacon!
Good luck out there… I hear small gummies are the ticket!Nov 9, 2009 at 12:59 am #39991jkillinger
MemberDo you guys use a boat or wade when you go? I’ve been wanting to go ever since I heard about Albacore, but still have yet to make it. Sure would like to one of these years. I even have all the gear needed for them. Maybe next year. Another problem would be, once I go, then that would be another trip I would be thinking about all the time…
Next year maybe.

MemberRealistically, you need to fish from a boat. While there is some shore fishing at the tip of Core Bank (you’re right at a dropoff into deeper water, and several small ferries will run you over there), you’re severely limited . . . basically by the length of a cast. A guide/boat is expensive, but if you really want the best chance of catching fish, it’s the way to go.
Reports are that this weekend was exceptional too. I guess we’re back to the good old days being now . . .

MemberI couldn’t make it out there with Wilke from the club last week but he and Bill Barker sat on top of a bait ball for well over an hour!
They had scads of hook-ups!
Albie fishing is one of those bucket list items that usually returns each fall!Nov 9, 2009 at 3:18 pm #39995matt boutet

I’ve done both – if you’re flying in, you really want to hire a guide for at least a day.
