I live in Southwest Virginia, practically on the Smith River. I used to live in NE Ohio and will be up there for the holidays. I fished for Steelhead years ago at the mouth of Arcola Creek but havent fished for them in many years.

This is the shop I visit when in C’bus.
They should be able to point you in the right direction.

    Rob,

I’ll be up north for thanksgiving as well most likely.
PM me your details and possibly we can give thanks to steelhead.

I’ll be in PA just southeast of erie, but nothing is really too far.

Thanks for all the good replies.

Another thing Id like to ask is this. The heaviest rod I have is a 5 weight.

Bring at least a 7 if you are fishing Ohio.

    Robert,
I’d say Mike has you covered on the Ohio side of things. The rivers are known as combat fisheries by people that don’t now the rivers don’t let them dissuade you, but be ready for a little leg work. A 9 or10′ 7wt is all I ever use but a reel with good brakes is a must. The people at Mad River outfitters know there stuff but The backpackers shop http://www.steeliesonthefly.com/  is a bit closer. If you don’t mind a slight detour in your route I have plenty of loaner gear around here to set you up with.

I’m in Ohio right now fishing. Fishing has been great here, if you can nymph. I have only been fishing a few hours a day since I am hosting a trip from my shop and have been hitting fish on a regular basis. I have been fishing some of the patterns that the Steelhead Alley Outfitters guides have came up with. Check out there website http://www.steelheadalleyoutfitters.com they post reports almost daily.

    R.S.,
Mike E has you covered, he knows his stuff.  Call International Angler in Pittsburgh PA, talk to Mark, mention my name.  If you are looking for additional info. pm me and we can talk it through.  Don’t believe the hype…in OH you can find plenty of room to fish alone.  I fished Erie Tribs like a mad man until I – 1. Got married 2. Had a kid and 3. Moved to Alaska.  I still love Great Lakes steelhead and dream about them often.  It’s 18 degrees here and I will not have a fly rod in my hand untill May!  I miss fly fishing in November!
