I had a chance to do a little fishing in Charleston, SC this weekend with some buddies from work. Despite the record high temperatures, the fishing was actually pretty good.

We fished the falling tide on Friday afternoon and managed several nice reds as the tide crept towards low. I was also treated to a rather humorous situation when an unsuspecting seagull found itself in the path of my spin fishing boat partner’s circle hook. Unfortunately, as I went for my camera to document this event, I discovered that my battery was sitting in my suitcase back at the house. I am happy to report however that my friend did land and safely release the seagull.

Saturday morning (equipped with a camera AND battery) we ventured out at low tide and were into the fish immediately. The situation was perfect for fly fishing during the first couple of hours with tailing and cruising fish everywhere.

I should be in the area next weekend and I hope to find the same luck you did.
Nice pics and it looks like a blast, too bad you did not get the bird on film.

Thanks for the comments guys. And thanks for the use of the rod Zach. I took it as a backup and it wound up being the only one I fished.

    Keith,
Who are you fishing with and where are you fishing? You are headed down at the right time for sure.

    Cam,
That stuff is like two hours away from you…and you have a kayak…..Why aren’t you wearing that out? I’d be willing to bet you are going to want to make it a regular thing after this upcoming trip.

    Grant,
My brother and I towed the Gheenoe over to Georgetown, SC for a few days. We got into some fish….

    Andrew,
I will actually be fishing out of Murrell’s Inlet with Shannon Curry.
I have fished the area several times, but never this late in the year.

Andrew, Looks like you’ve got their number. We’re headed to west bay/seaside friday to fish with shallow water expeditions, hopefully we can find them.

While I love catching fish on a fly as much as any, I rarely make a fishing journey without a darkside rod! After all catching fish is the main goal and getting the salt tug on a fly rod is an added bonus!

    Adam,
Good luck on the trip. I have fished the late season tarpon run with the shallow water expeditions guys for the past two years and they know their stuff. Be sure to post some pics. when you get back.

Andrew…it is a little embarrassing that I haven’t done much salt fishing and lived in the “Dirty” now for almost ten years.
